Family portraits for one of the fastest-growing communities in Tampa Bay, shot in quiet riverside preserves or my New Tampa studio.
Riverview grew from 71,050 people in 2010 to 107,396 at the 2020 census. That's a lot of new driveways, new schools and new babies in a decade, and a lot of families who've just put down roots south of the Alafia River. I'm Mallary Denson, the family photographer Tampa families can count on, and Riverview family photography is some of my favorite work because so many of these households are writing their first chapter here.
My sessions are guided but never stiff. I'll tell you where to stand and how to hold the baby on your hip, then step back so the real moments show up: siblings whispering, a grandparent's hand on a small shoulder, a dad mid-laugh. New Neighborhoods, First Family Portraits
It's common for a family that just settled into Panther Trace, South Fork or Triple Creek to realize there isn't a single nice photo of everyone together since the move. Between closing on a house, changing schools and settling in, portraits slide down the list. A one-hour session is often all it takes to fix that.
If you're starting from zero, I'd suggest the $650 collection: 10 edited images over 90 minutes gives us time for the full family, each child on their own, and a few frames of you as a couple. The $400 collection, with 5 edited images in an hour, is perfect for a quick yearly update, and the $1,150 collection covers 20 images over two hours for bigger groups.

Riverside and Scrub: Portrait Spots Around Riverview
The Alafia River runs through the northern part of Riverview, and Hillsborough County has protected a surprising amount of land along it and to the east. That gives Riverview families real variety: tidal marsh one weekend, tall pines and open scrub the next. I recommend spots based on how far your youngest can walk and what kind of light you love.
Kids tend to do their best work when they have something to explore. A creek crossing at Alafia Scrub, a sandy path at Balm Boyette or a stretch of open grass at Bell Creek gives them a reason to run, and running children make for genuinely candid frames. I build short bursts of posing between those moments, so we still get the classic portrait for Grandma's mantel without anyone melting down.
A heads-up for big groups: under Hillsborough County's film guidelines, the permit is waived in county parks and preserves only for groups of five or fewer, including me, using handheld cameras or a tripod and no props. A grandparents-and-cousins session will need a permit outdoors, or we can bring everyone into the studio.
Bell Creek Nature Preserve
A 477-acre preserve off McMullen Road with mature trees and open, grassy clearings. A favorite spot for families who want soft, natural backgrounds without a long drive.
Alafia Scrub Nature Preserve
Eighty acres of hammock, creeks and tidal marsh on Elbow Bend Road, with a scenic overlook on the Alafia River. Short 0.8 and 1.3-mile loops suit little walkers.
Balm Boyette Scrub Nature Preserve
At 5,723 acres, this preserve about five miles southeast of Riverview offers big skies and open scrub. Works beautifully for wide, airy group portraits.
Alafia River State Park
Rolling hills on a reclaimed phosphate mine, rare terrain in flat Florida. Entry is $5 per vehicle, and the elevation adds depth behind a family lineup.
My New Tampa Studio

Roads, Exits and Riverview ZIP Codes
Riverview's western edge is Interstate 75, with exits 246, 250, 254 and 256 serving different parts of town, and U.S. 301 runs north to south through the original settlement. Big Bend Road, Boyette Road, Riverview Drive and McMullen Road carry most of the local traffic. Families from ZIPs 33568, 33569, 33578 and 33579 can usually reach my New Tampa studio in about 35 to 40 minutes, depending on the I-75 rush.
Riverview neighborhoods within easy reach include Panther Trace, Triple Creek, Rivercrest, South Fork, Summerfield and Boyette Springs. If you live farther east near Boyette Road, Bell Creek and Balm Boyette are right in your backyard, which makes an evening session feel effortless.

From Peru to Riverview: Local Roots
Riverview was founded in 1885 on the north shore of the Alafia River, and during the 1940s it absorbed an older nearby settlement called Peru. East of town on Boyette Road stands the antenna farm that broadcasts Tampa Bay's radio and television stations.
I love knowing these small details. They remind me that even the newest subdivision sits on land with a long story, and the family photos we make this year become part of it.
Seasons, Light and Holiday Planning
Holiday portraits run October through December, and those dates book up first. Cooler air in late October makes Riverview's preserves comfortable for kids, and the low autumn sun lights up the scrub and grasses in a way I never get tired of. In summer, we shoot late. Golden hour in July lands well after dinner, so I keep sessions short and full of movement so younger kids stay cheerful. And if an afternoon storm rolls in off the bay, you can reschedule free or move into the studio. Prints and wall art are easy to order from your gallery once it arrives. Riverview family photography FAQs
Bell Creek Nature Preserve covers 477 acres, with trails through mature trees and open grassy areas. That mix lets little ones wander while I shoot candid frames, then we pull everyone together under the trees for a calm group portrait. It is a relaxed choice for Riverview families who would rather not wrangle kids on a narrow path.
Under the county parks guidelines, no permit is needed when the whole group, photographer included, is five people or fewer, using a handheld camera or tripod and no props. Four of you plus me fits that rule. Larger groups, props or extra equipment do need a county permit, which you would request from Hillsborough County Parks.
Alafia Scrub Nature Preserve has a scenic overlook on the Alafia River within its 80 acres of hammock, scrub, creeks and ravines. The 0.8-mile loop is short enough for preschool legs, and the river view gives us one wide family frame before we move into the trees for closer portraits of siblings and parents.
Alafia River State Park works for grandparents if we stay close to parking. Its terrain comes from a reclaimed phosphate mine, so much of the trail system climbs and drops steeply. I look for a flat clearing near the lot for the three-generation portraits. Vehicle entry is $5 for 2 to 8 people, and since closing is at sundown, we start early enough to keep golden hour.
From Riverview the drive is approximately 35 to 40 minutes, roughly 30 to 35 miles, depending on traffic. A studio portrait session makes sense when you want clean, weather-proof backdrops and no bugs or heat. If an outdoor date gets threatened by storms, moving inside is always an option, so the drive can save the day.
Outdoor sessions include one location within 30 miles of Tampa, and Riverview sits just southeast of the city along I-75 and US 301, so preserves like Bell Creek work without extra planning. Late fall through early spring brings milder evenings, which helps when kids are in layers at Bell Creek Nature Preserve or Alafia Scrub. In summer I book closer to sunset and keep a backup date in mind, since afternoon storms are common in Hillsborough County. If weather cancels us, rescheduling is free.
Holiday portraits run October through December, so Summerfield and Rivercrest families can start planning as soon as the weather cools in early fall. Choose a preserve like Alafia Scrub for a natural card photo, or the New Tampa studio for a polished look. I'd reach out through the booking page early in the season.
Balm Boyette Scrub Nature Preserve spreads across 5,723 acres about 5 miles southeast of Riverview, with open scrub and big skies.
