Zephyrhills Family Photographer
Family portraits with small-town character for Zephyrhills, from century-old oaks and a 1927 rail depot to a quiet studio in New Tampa.

I'm Mallary, a Tampa family photographer based in New Tampa, and Zephyrhills is one of the places I love driving out to. The city has a real downtown, a historic main street on 5th Avenue and oak trees that have been shading picnics for generations. Those details give family photos a warmth that is hard to fake.
Zephyrhills sits a little beyond my standard outdoor radius, so please ask about travel to Zephyrhills when you reach out. Many families here also make the drive to the studio, which is roughly 30 to 35 minutes away now that SR 56 runs all the way to US 301.
Old Oaks, a Rail Depot and a Real Main Street
Plenty of Tampa suburbs are new. Zephyrhills is not. It was settled as Abbott in 1888, renamed Zephyrhills in 1910 and became a city in 1914. That history shows in the brick storefronts, the 1911 Jeffries house on 5th Avenue and the restored train depot, and it gives your family photos a sense of place rather than a generic backdrop.
When I plan a Zephyrhills session, I think about pairing two looks: something rooted and leafy, like the oaks in Zephyr Park, and something with texture, like the murals and storefronts downtown. Kids love the variety, and you leave with a gallery that does not repeat itself.
Family Photographer Zephyrhills
As a family photographer serving Zephyrhills, I keep sessions relaxed and guided. I set up the big group portrait early while everyone is fresh, then let the kids lead for a while. A race down a park path, a piggyback ride or a toddler handing grandma a leaf usually gives me the candid family photos people end up printing largest.
Zephyrhills family portraits often include more than one generation. Grandparents are often part of the plan, and my extended family sessions are built for that, with a clear shot list so every grouping gets covered. If you are planning a big reunion, my post on extended family and large group photography has helpful tips.
I run a Black woman-owned studio with a 5.0 star Google rating from 143 reviews. I was named Best Family Photographer in Tampa 2026 by 10 Best Photographers and No. 1 Family Photographer in Tampa 2027 by Best Tampa Photographers.

Where to Take Family Pictures in Zephyrhills
Between its city parks and the state park just to the south, Zephyrhills has more good backdrops than most people expect. The city counts nine parks, and its newest, Hercules Park, opened in early 2025 as the first new public park in the city in 40 years. Here are favorite spots for Zephyrhills family photography.
For babies and toddlers, I like Zephyr Park, where the oaks give steady shade and the lake gives a calm second backdrop. School-age kids usually love the depot and the murals, because there is something to look at and talk about. If your family wants a true nature look, Hillsborough River State Park is worth the short drive south, with river views and tall trees that make the whole family look small in the best way. If grandparents prefer to sit for part of the session, I make sure there is a bench or a shady spot to rest close by.
Zephyr Park
34 acres at 38116 Fifth Avenue, shaded by large Civil War-era oaks, with a lake and walking trails. Dappled shade makes skin tones glow.
Downtown 5th Avenue
The historic district's storefronts and the Splash on 5th Ave murals add color and texture. It works beautifully for families with older kids and teens.
Zephyrhills Depot Museum
The restored 1927 Atlantic Coast Line depot has classic railroad lines and a timeless feel, a favorite spot for train-loving kids.
Hercules Park
This 12-acre park opened in February 2025 with walking trails. Great for short, easy walking portraits with little ones.
Hillsborough River State Park
Just south of town, 3,383 acres of oak hammock along the river, with a suspension bridge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Entry is $6 per vehicle.
Neighborhoods, Highways and the Drive From Zephyrhills
Families come from all over the Zephyrhills area: the Downtown Historic District, the Zephyr Lake area around the park, Silverado, Abbott Square, Lake Bernadette, Hidden River, Two Rivers and Zephyr Lakes. The city's ZIP codes are 33541 and 33542.
US 301, called Gall Boulevard through town, is the main north-south road. SR 54 runs along 5th Avenue and heads west toward Wesley Chapel, while County Road 54, known as Eiland Boulevard, loops around the south side. SR 56 now connects straight to US 301, which makes the trip to the studio much simpler than it used to be. SR 39 runs south toward Plant City.
Nearby, I also photograph families as a Wesley Chapel family photographer, offer family portraits in Dade City and travel to Plant City for family photos.
Zephyrhills History Kids Will Remember
Zephyrhills was built by veterans. In 1909, Captain Howard B. Jeffries, a Union veteran of the Civil War, formed the Zephyrhills Colony Company to create a community for veterans. The town's Founders Day is still celebrated every March with a parade and heritage festival downtown.
The Zephyrhills Depot Museum lives in a 1927 Atlantic Coast Line depot that was moved, restored and reopened in 1998. And if you have ever looked up and seen parachutes over town, that is Skydive City, founded in 1990 and now home to more than 70,000 skydives a year. The 2020 Census counted 17,194 residents in the city.
Seasons, Shade and Planning Your Zephyrhills Session
Zephyrhills runs warm, so shade is everything. The big oaks in Zephyr Park and the canopy at Hillsborough River State Park let us shoot a little earlier in the evening than in open fields. From May through September, I still aim for the last hour before sunset, when the light is golden and gentle on faces.
If rain moves in, you can reschedule free or switch to the studio. Holiday portraits run October through December. Collections are $400 for five edited images and one hour, $650 for ten images and 90 minutes, and $1,150 for twenty images and two hours, with extra edited images at $50 each and a 50% deposit to reserve. Galleries arrive in 2 to 3 weeks as a private online gallery, and every booked family gets my styling guide. Ask about travel to Zephyrhills or view the collections.

Zephyrhills family photography FAQs
Zephyr Park covers 34 acres at 38116 Fifth Ave and is shaded by large Civil War-era oaks, with a lake and walking trails. That canopy softens harsh Florida sun, which helps with squinty toddlers and sensitive eyes. The lake adds a calm second backdrop.
Hercules Park opened in February 2025 as a 12-acre city park with walking trails. It suits a playful session where little ones wander the paths while I capture candid moments, and the short trails keep preschoolers close to me and to the car.
Hillsborough River State Park, about 3,383 acres just south of Zephyrhills, is open 8 a.m. to sundown. Entrance is $6 per vehicle for up to 8 people, so carpooling helps a bigger group. The river rapids, the CCC-era suspension bridge and the oak hammock give you three very different looks in one park.
The Zephyrhills Depot Museum is housed in the 1927 Atlantic Coast Line depot, relocated and restored in 1998. Its railroad architecture adds a vintage feel, especially for kids who love trains. Since it is a museum, we'll check its hours ahead of time and keep walkways clear for visitors.
The Downtown Zephyrhills Historic District along 5th Avenue mixes masonry vernacular storefronts, the 1911 Jeffries house and the Splash on 5th Ave murals. Bright walls pair well with simple solid outfits, so the art stays the backdrop. Fifth Avenue is also State Road 54, so we stay on the sidewalks and away from traffic.
Captain Howard B. Jeffries, a Union Civil War veteran, created the Zephyrhills Colony Company in 1909 as a community for veterans. His 1911 house still stands in the downtown historic district, a sweet detail for grandparents who love local history and a nice reason to include a downtown stop.
Founders Day is celebrated each March with a parade and Heritage Festival downtown, so 5th Avenue gets busy. If you want empty sidewalks, we can pick another weekend or head to Zephyr Park instead. Some families love the festive energy, though, and an early start before the crowds can work.
Quite possibly. Skydive City, founded in 1990, handles more than 70,000 skydives a year, so canopies drifting overhead are part of everyday Zephyrhills life. I can't promise the timing, but if parachutes float into view, I'll be ready to capture your kids pointing at the sky.
Zephyrhills is about a 30 to 35 minute drive northeast of New Tampa (approximate), helped by the SR 56 extension to US 301 that opened July 10, 2019. Because it sits near the edge of my area, please ask about travel to Zephyrhills when you inquire. Session details live on my family photo investment page.
Whether you live in 33541 or 33542, Zephyrhills summer afternoons can turn stormy quickly. If the forecast looks rough, we reschedule for free or move the session into my New Tampa studio. Morning slots under the oaks at Zephyr Park are often the safest bet from June through September.
Sneakers are smart for the trails and the CCC-era suspension bridge at Hillsborough River State Park. Rich greens, mustard and navy stand out against the oak hammock and river rapids without clashing. Every booked family receives my styling guide, and my favorite family photo spots post shows how backdrops shape outfit choices.
