Land O' Lakes Family Photographer

I'm Mallary, the family photographer Tampa families can count on, with a studio in New Tampa, and Land O' Lakes is one of my favorite directions to point the car. Head up US 41 or out SR 54 and the suburbs open into preserves, lakes and long rows of pine. That landscape makes for family pictures that feel grounded and unhurried.

Land O' Lakes families tend to want photos that look like them: barefoot kids, a dog who refuses to sit, grandparents who just moved down to be closer to the grandchildren. My sessions are guided but relaxed, and every booked family receives a styling guide so planning outfits is the easy part.

Preserves, Lakes and Room to Roam

The name says it: Land O' Lakes is a place shaped by water. That matters for photography, because water reflects light back onto faces and pine forests filter harsh sun into something soft. When I plan an outdoor session here, I am looking for open shade, a clean background and space for kids to move without me saying 'careful' every thirty seconds.

My outdoor family sessions include one location within 30 miles of Tampa, and Land O' Lakes falls inside that range. If you would rather skip the bugs and the heat, the studio is always an option, and it is a great choice for babies and grandparents who would rather stay cool.

Being a family photographer in Land O' Lakes means working with a mix of brand-new neighborhoods and established lake communities, often in the same week. A family in Connerton might want photos on the trails with toddlers in matching neutrals, while a multigenerational family near Lake Padgett wants one classic portrait of all fourteen people. I plan both kinds the same way: with a shot list, gentle posing and lots of candid moments in between.

Land O' Lakes Family Portrait Locations

Pasco County and the Southwest Florida Water Management District protect huge tracts of land around Land O' Lakes, and two of the best, Conner Preserve and Cypress Creek Preserve, sit right here. Add a community park and a large Hillsborough County park just over the line in Lutz, and you have real variety within a short drive. Here are favorite spots for Land O' Lakes family portraits.

For toddlers, I lean toward Heritage Park or the paved trail at Cypress Creek, where little legs and strollers have an easy time. For older kids and teens who want something with more drama, the sandhill ridges at Conner Preserve give long, open views and that golden, late-day color. If grandparents are joining, I choose a spot with short walks from parking and a bench or two nearby, so everyone has energy left for the final group portrait.

From Connerton to Lake Padgett: Neighborhoods and Routes

Land O' Lakes is a census-designated place, so families usually describe home by community: Connerton, Bexley, Angeline, Ballantrae, Oakstead, Lake Padgett Estates or Plantation Palms. ZIP codes 34637, 34638 and 34639 cover most of the area.

US 41, known locally as Land O' Lakes Boulevard, is the main north-south spine. SR 54 crosses it heading east toward Wesley Chapel and the studio side of town, and SR 52 runs along the north end past Conner Preserve. The Suncoast Parkway runs along the west side, and Collier Parkway and Ehren Cutoff carry a lot of local traffic. Plan on roughly 20 to 30 minutes to the New Tampa studio, depending on the time of day.

Roadside Gardens and an Honorary Mayor

Land O' Lakes has some of the most charming history in north Tampa Bay. The community took its current name in September 1950, after the name was suggested in 1949. Before that, Dupree Gardens opened on December 1, 1940 as a 25-acre botanical garden on what is now Ehren Cutoff, one of Florida's early roadside attractions. The old gatehouse ruins and a historical marker are still there.

In 1968, residents created an honorary mayor position, purely ceremonial, which tells you a lot about the community's sense of humor and pride. Today the area counts 35,929 residents as of the 2020 Census, with Land O' Lakes High School and Sunlake High School anchoring a lot of family life.

Best Seasons and Light for Family Photos Here

The preserves are most comfortable from November through April, when mornings are cool and the mosquitoes are quieter. In summer I book outdoor sessions for the hour before sunset, when the light glows through the pines and the heat eases. Afternoon storms are common from June to September, so if the sky turns, you can reschedule free or move into the studio.

Holiday portraits run October through December, and those weekends fill early. Family collections are $400 for five edited images and one hour, $650 for ten images and 90 minutes, and $1,150 for twenty images and two hours, with extra edited images at $50 each and a 50% deposit to book.
