Palm Harbor Family Photographer
Lake Tarpon boardwalks, a historic spring and Old Florida streets in Ozona. Family portraits in Palm Harbor that feel like home.

Palm Harbor sits between the Gulf and Lake Tarpon, and that gives families two very different kinds of water to play with in one community. I'm Mallary Denson, the family photographer Tampa families choose, working from my New Tampa studio, and Palm Harbor is a natural fit for families who want relaxed, outdoorsy portraits without the beach crowds.
My sessions are paced for real kids. We start with a couple of posed family photos, then shift into play, with sibling games, swinging toddlers and slow walks with grandparents. I quietly photograph the in-between moments, the giggles and glances, and those become the heart of your gallery. My goal is for everyone to barely notice the camera, so the smiles you see are real ones.
Lake, Springs and Sound: Palm Harbor's Three Backdrops
Most places give you one kind of scenery. Palm Harbor gives you three. On the east side, John Chesnut Sr. Park runs along Lake Tarpon with boardwalks and an observation tower. On the west side, Wall Springs Park and Pop Stansell Park look out over the Gulf and St. Joseph Sound. In between, the old village of Ozona adds Old Florida charm with cottages and quiet streets near the water.
That variety helps me tailor your session. Families with toddlers often do best on the shaded lake trails, while families with older kids love the open Gulf views and a sunset finish. Extended families with grandparents appreciate flat boardwalks and paths, and Wall Springs even has a fully ramped observation tower.
John Chesnut Sr. Park
255 acres along Lake Tarpon with boardwalks and an observation tower. Shade and water views for toddler-friendly sessions.
Wall Springs Park
A 210-acre county park with a historic spring, boardwalk and a 35-foot ramped observation tower over the Gulf. Accessible for grandparents.
H.S. "Pop" Stansell Park
A small park overlooking St. Joseph Sound. Simple, open water views for a sunset finish.
Ozona village
Old Florida cottages and quiet streets near the water in one of the area's oldest settlements. Charming for candid walking shots.

As a Palm Harbor family photographer, I offer three session styles. Outdoor sessions include one location within 30 miles of Tampa, which covers Palm Harbor's parks. Extended family sessions are built for big reunions and holiday visits. And studio portraits in New Tampa give you a clean, classic look in any weather.
Collections are $400 for one hour and five edited images, $650 for 90 minutes and ten images, and $1,150 for two hours and twenty images. Extra edited images are $50 each, and a 50% deposit reserves your date. Every booked family gets my styling guide, and your private online gallery is delivered in two to three weeks. For planning tips, read how far in advance to book a family photographer.

Palm Harbor Parks for Family Photos
Here are the Palm Harbor locations I recommend most, each with its own mood. I choose based on your kids' ages, the season and the light at your session time.
Two of these, Wall Springs Park and John Chesnut Sr. Park, are Pinellas County parks. The county's film guidelines say handheld portrait sessions during regular park hours do not need a permit, as long as we skip large lighting setups and keep paths clear. That keeps planning simple for families.
Ozona and Pop Stansell Park are smaller and quieter, which I love for families who get overwhelmed in busy places. A short walk past old cottages, a few minutes at the water and a relaxed hug by the water can produce some of the most natural family photos in the whole gallery.
Palm Harbor Neighborhoods, Roads and Getting There
I photograph families all over Palm Harbor, from Lansbrook, Westlake Village and Tarpon Woods to Crystal Beach, Ozona, Innisbrook, Highland Lakes and Juniper Bay. If your neighborhood has a favorite park or pond, that can be a great, low-stress session spot.
From New Tampa, Palm Harbor is about 30 miles, usually 45 minutes to an hour. I take Tampa Road, State Road 584, west through Oldsmar into Palm Harbor. U.S. 19 and East Lake Road run north and south, Alternate U.S. 19 follows the coast, and Curlew Road connects the south end of town toward Dunedin.
Palm Harbor is close to several areas I cover. I also work as a Dunedin family photographer, photograph Clearwater family portraits on the beach, and offer family photos in Safety Harbor on Old Tampa Bay.
Palm Harbor History and Community Facts
Palm Harbor is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Pinellas County, with 61,366 residents counted in the 2020 Census. The area was once called Curlew and later Sutherland, named for the Southern Land and Development Company founded in 1888, before taking the name Palm Harbor in 1925. Its main ZIP codes are 34683, 34684 and 34685.
Families here often know Palm Harbor University High School and Joseph L. Carwise Middle School, and golf fans know Innisbrook Resort, home of the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship. Ozona, settled in 1870 and named Ozona in 1889, is one of the oldest corners of the community.
The Pinellas Trail also runs through Palm Harbor's historic downtown, and Wall Springs Park preserves a natural spring that was a popular bathing spot from around 1900 until the 1960s. Little details like these make a session feel rooted in the place you call home.
Seasonal Light and Holiday Portraits in Palm Harbor
For lake sessions at John Chesnut Sr. Park, I like late afternoon, when the trees soften the light and the water glows. For Gulf-side spots like Wall Springs or Pop Stansell, golden hour before sunset gives warm color and long shadows. In the summer, storms can arrive quickly, and you can reschedule free or move to the studio.
Holiday portraits run October through December, and cooler weather makes the boardwalks comfortable for everyone. Warm neutrals, greens and soft blues look natural against lake and Gulf backdrops. Lake Tarpon's boardwalks are also pleasant on breezy fall mornings, a good option for early risers. Wherever we go, I plan breaks for snacks and water so little ones stay happy to the very last frame. Palm Harbor family photography FAQs
It is one of the friendlier parks for that. Wall Springs Park has a boardwalk with level paths, so grandparents can move easily while the kids stay close by for quick group frames. We photograph the older generation first, then let them rest while siblings and cousins take their turns.
Yes, it makes a backdrop with a story. The spring at Wall Springs Park served as a bathing area from around 1900 into the 1960s, and today the 210-acre county park frames it with a boardwalk. Kids love hearing that families swam there more than a hundred years ago.
Very. The 255-acre park sits on Lake Tarpon with boardwalks and an observation tower, so we get water, trees and an elevated view in one place. It is named for John Chesnut Sr., a Pinellas County commissioner from 1937 to 1953, in case your kids ask.
Ozona is a favorite for an Old Florida feel, with fishing-village streets and historic cottages near the water. It was settled in 1870 as Yellow Bluff and took the name Ozona in 1889. We stay on public streets and keep the session respectful of the homes around us.
Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club hosts the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship, but I don't assume its grounds are open for portraits. For golf-loving Palm Harbor families, we can bring the clubs and a polo-and-khaki palette to a public spot like John Chesnut Sr. Park instead.
Of course. A few solo frames of your teen fit easily into a 90-minute session, then we fold them back into the full family group. The boardwalk at Wall Springs Park or the Pinellas Trail through the historic downtown both give the grown-up, polished look a Palm Harbor University High School student will want to share.
It works beautifully for a casual walking session. The Pinellas Trail runs through Palm Harbor's historic downtown, and the Bayshore Boulevard pedestrian bridge near mile marker 29 adds a strong architectural line. Cyclists share the paved trail, so we keep groups to the side and time shots between riders.
Not at all. The area was first known as Curlew, then Sutherland after the Southern Land and Development Company in 1888, and it became Palm Harbor in 1925. Holiday portraits run October through December, so a little hometown history makes a sweet caption on your Palm Harbor card.
Palm Harbor is an unincorporated Pinellas County community of 61,366 people (2020 Census) across ZIP codes 34683, 34684 and 34685. Whether you live in Crystal Beach, Tarpon Woods or Lansbrook, Wall Springs Park and John Chesnut Sr. Park on Lake Tarpon are both local options.
For several households at John Chesnut Sr. Park, the two-hour collection with 20 edited images gives every branch its own grouping plus the full crew on the boardwalk. Extra images are $50 each. See extended family sessions and my investment page for the details.
